Okay, not sure if anyone still needs a guide to get on that chat server, but I was bored, so here we go:

First download a client, a quick google search should show quite a few, you want to search for 'jabber' or 'xmpp' clients, I would recommend either psi or pidgin, for any OS.
For the rest of this guide I'll use pidgin, but the setting should be the same nomatter what client you choose.

First time you run pidgin you should see the welcome message and have only very few options, one of them is to add an account


now choose the XMPP from the scrolldown menu, pidgin supports dozens of ways to communicate, gotta love that program <3


Choose a nick name (replace 'username' in the picture below) and a password, something that you can remember, its hard to retrieve the password, so if lost the easiest way for the admin to 'fix it' will be to delete the old account and create a new one,
now, fill in the rest of the voids with the information shown in the image
remember to check the box saying 'Create this account on the server' if you dont already own a useable account, so if you want to use an excisting account this will not be needed


Now the program should log on to the server with your new account,
Sometimes you will get a certificate warning, trust this certificate, its needed to log on the chat server.

You are now logged on, next we want to enter the chat and start being social.

Press the buddies menu and choose 'join chat'


and fill in the information shown in the picture below (Handle should be the nickname you choose earlier, mine's Kullax )

if joining this way for some reason doesn't work press the 'Room List' and then 'Find Room' and the program should search for, and hopefully, find the chat room

and you should be ready to chat

Kullax, in case I didnt tell you enough times in the chat, you're god. Ever since montrosechat came out, I'd been trying to get in with various messengers listed on the link Kittyhawk had posted. And none of the ones I tried could I get to work. But, as I said, Pidgin, with your explanation, is easy. And reminds me somewhat, in ease of use, to yahoo.

enough that it was driving me crazy, but from now on i'm just gonna use my Cliche`Hero account, i like the name and it's catchy, so just refer to me as that kay.
